‘The Forest Creek’ and Motörhead

Here is a process of painting one of my recent works – The Forest Creek. I love forests. To me it just feels like home there. I also love Motörhead. A lot.

While working on this one I used fast drying underpainting. It was an experiment, since usually I prefer to go for a red colour for an underpainting in most cases, but instead I chose Burnt Sienna in this case. I wanted to finally try out why is it considered as a most common way to start with a picture. As you see, I did not worry much about perfection, I was using loose working style and enjoy the effects of energetic brushstrokes together with slightly transparent layers of colours.

During the process I enjoyed inspiration coming from Motörhead songs and lovely gothic-punk acoustic covers by Mr Scardinius (check him on YouTube, his stuff is amazing).

Snowed in in a Forgotten Hut

What was awesome while working on this was the environment. After we left from the UK with my partner in November last year, we have spent few months living in the summer kitchen in the garden of his family in Cottbus. We needed to find job and house of our own and this mission turned to be in corona times quite difficult.

However, my partner’s uncle was so kind, that he let me to work in small hut in the back of the garden, where he was normally keeping his tools. It was quite far in the back, rather isolated place. They even provided me with little electric heater, so when the snow came and weather became pretty cold, I could actually stay there several hours completely lost in creative process without freezing to death, listening to music and audiobooks. My painting sessions turned into small polar expedition, sometimes interrupted only by a cat staring at me creepily through the window.

‘The Forest Creek’ – the final work

What is yours favorite Motörhead song? For me it is almost impossible to choose, bat ‘Walk Your Crooked Mile’ just gives me chills of pleasure. The lyrics are genius and so is a music and Lemmy’s singing. Motörhead rules!!
