Let me introduce you to my largest painting. It is a view on Cardiff Bay from Penarth, the scenery which regularly opened to me on my way to work across the Barrage. We lived approximately ten minutes away up the hill. It looks beautiful there – fresh sea wind, bridge which lifted up for boats to be able to go through, wonderful view across the Bristol Channel. However I must say, cycling this road every day to work turned out not that romantic at all, rather to be proper ordeal. Through the storm and rain, darkness and wind and often times with empty battery in my bike light… Adventurous indeed.
Well, at least it made me feel alive, after all day in the office!
Here you can see the way work depicting the view on Cardiff Bay progressed. It took over three months to finish, mostly also because we moved in the meantime into our own flat. As you see, I started painting already here in Germany, in the amazing and very much beloved garden shed belonging to my partner’s family. The picture did not really fit in there though, and I had trouble not messing everywhere with a red paint.
Moving took a lot of my attention away (understandably), so the picture layers had a lot of time to dry in the meantime. It was good at the end, I guess, because normally I am way too inpatient to wait and therefore do not get a chance to work in separate layers.
I hope you found it at least little bit interesting, to see a painting in the construction. If not, at least you can listen to this wonderful version of Drunken Sailor by magnificent Paddy and the Rats!
