Tree Trunks in Red – The Process

Today I will show you the development of my latest painting ‘Tree Trunks in Red’.

As you can see, I have started with black and white underpainting in acrylics. That is because most of the picture is actually slightly desaturated so for the trunks to stand out I needed to simulate that.

Second layer of underpainting is done in colour. It was difficult here to balance the level of detail with a good level of blur and blending. At the end I added one more layer for the tree trunks to look proper orange – red.
