The Wild Forests of Berlin

The Wild Forests of Berlin

I absolutelly love forests. I adore spending time there and looking for mushrooms. Preferably not poisonous ones. Recently I therefore dedicated myself to exploring a forest behind our doors. And almost every time I go I encounter a wild pig.

This discovery led me to worrisome conclusion: feeding station for hogs completely destroyed by their wilderness. Next time I go, I will take a big stick, just to be safe!

I admit that is quite a new experience for me, and that not only because I am a child of the city. We do have wild pigs in Prague surroundings, but never in my life have I actually encountered one. As a kid I was only given one advice for that situation and that is – climbing on the tree. Now, ever since my childhood I never succeeded to learn that. So much to my preparation for the encounter.

Now imagine my horror when I saw one big bore papa more than a meter high as far as I could tell, in a broad daylight, right next to the road, ramming his way through the forest. Fortunately away from me, which did not stop me to ram my way in the opposite direction. Gosh. And that was the first time I learned that forests here are completely different level then I am used to. Last time I saw mega Schwein running away from me, today I met a little smaller Schweinchen sucpiciously observing me from a nearby bush. I swear I am never going to that part of forest again, because there is only as much of wildreness one poor city person can handle.

Exaggerating a little bit more… or am I?

Otherwise there are also great advantages to that. It is amazing, how many mushrooms one finds, even when you are super close to the civilisation. I found also some weird huts. Originally I thought that some kids built them there as a game. But regarding the fact that they are right next to that wild-pig-habitated spot made me slightly suspicious. Also next to them there were some confusing big circles built from various stuff, I rather concluded it must be probably local witches. No questions asked, I cleared off before they come home. Does it make me a chicken? Probably, I guess…

So I assume this trip was successful, I made some photos so I can paint and in addition to that I found today’s dinner. There are more mushrooms deeper in the forest in the north, so when I am mentally prepared for that I will go there. Last time I went there I found some weird bullets, so I am little bit nervous about going back. But hey, other than pigs, wolfs, witches or criminals, what could possibly happen?

I not only go to forests for adrenalin, but also for an inspiration. Check outlay last article about how did my’Forest Creek’ painting unfold!
