This is how my painting of fire came to the existence. Fire is ultimate source of inspiration – the contrasts, lights and shadows and the overall energy. I will definitely come back to this motive again.
I have started with three areas of underpaint – red in the front to underline illumination of the fire on the stones, blue in the background to create distance and contrast, and black in the centre to simulate maximum contrast with brightness of flames. I did not continue with painting until underpaint was perfectly dry, then I went on with details. Having Cyrano de Bergerac playing on the background kept me pleasantly lost in work until late night, hehe.
Note: There is a little piggy hidden in the painting.
I have taken my reference photo while camping with my boyfriend on hidden beach close to Cardiff. It was absolutely great there, because the place was huge and not very easy to find. It was perfect even during pandemics, hidden from sights and minds of people.
